A IFLA junta forças com o International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) e a International Literacy Association (ILA), amanhã, 28 de Março de 2018 em Bolonha, Itália e assina conjuntamente um Memorandum de Entendimento (MoU) para trabalharem pelo aumento dos níveis de literacia para 100%, em todo o mundo.
O MoU reforça o compromisso das 3 organizações globais, e a promessa e partilha de conhecimento, trabalho conjunto, e participação nos respetivos congressos para sublinhar a importância da leitura e do acesso a informação, encontrando formas práticas de o tornar uma realidade. As signatárias acreditam que todos devem ser capazes de ler e de aceder a informação, o que corresponde a ferramentas essenciais para a vida quotidiana numa sociedade moderna, seja em papel seja bum écran. Alcançando todas as crianças, despertando a sua paixão pela leitura e pela descoberta do conhecimento mundial, construimos um futuro melhor para todos.

Universal literacy remains one of the great challenges of our time. Truly sustainable, bottom-up development depends on everyone having the ability to read and engage with information. In signing this memorandum with IBBY and ILA, I look forward to continuing a partnership that is making a real difference for people and communities around the world.

All our members approve the introduction of a formal commitment to the principles of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (1990). It is our responsibility to uphold these rights, as they reflect to seek, receive and impart information and to the elimination of ignorance and illiteracy
